Downtown

The Downtown Historic District was first placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, and its key anchor is the Union Pacific Depot, a National Historic Landmark at 15th Street and Capitol Avenue. Cheyenne was established in 1867 with the westward advance of the railroad and laid out as a two-mile-square city angled northwest to southeast to maximize winter sun.
